International & English Country Dance with Mady Newfield & Tammy Bretscher @ Grace Lutheran Church

Join us for International Folk Dance & Chicagoland West English Country Dancers (ECD) from 1–6 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Glen Ellyn. Come for either one or both parts of the afternoon. No partner or experience is needed; all figures are walked through before each dance.

  • International Folk Dance 1-3:15 pm
  • English Country Dance 3:30-6 pm

We recommend bringing your own water bottle. If you bring snacks to share, we suggest they be bite-sized and easy to eat neatly.

To help cover the cost of the hall rental, the suggested donation is $5 per person. If we have live music, we may request $10 per person.

Getting There:

Building Entrance:
The entrance to the gymnasium should be accessed from the elevator at the top of the ramped entrance. From the front of the church, walk up the ramp and enter the building. The elevator will be directly on your left. Take the elevator to the second floor and walk through the doors directly across the hall from the elevator.

Parking Information:
You can park in the parking lot if spaces are available, or there is typically street parking available on Pensylvania avenue. A public lot is also available ~1 block east of the chuch.

Metra:
The Glen Ellyn Metra stop is a short 5-minute walk from the venue. Currently, a Sunday train (Union Pacific West line) departs Ogilvie at 11:40 a.m. and arrives at 12:27 p.m. Return trains depart at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Birdhouse Hollow with Georges Augustin @ Ida Noyes Hall, University of Chicago

Join us for an early-evening dance in the Third Floor Theater at Ida Noyes.  Birdhouse Hollow – Qi Yang and Wren Eisenhauer – play for us, with Georges Augustin calling.

There is no entrance fee; there will be a tip jar for the caller and musicians.

The dance is from 5 – 6:30pm in the Third Floor Theater, starting with a beginner lesson.  Masks are optional.

This dance is part of the Phoenix Farms Fall Festival.  Phoenix Farms is UChicago’s premier beekeeping, mycology, and urban farming student organization. Join us for Chicagoland North English Country Dance (ECD) from 6:30-9 p.m. in Glenview at John’s Park Field House. English Country Dance is social and pattern-based, with a caller guiding each dance—similar to Contra and barn dancing. No partner or experience is needed; all figures are walked through before each dance.

Join the Chicagoland English Country Dancers for a Regency ball with live music in honor of the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth. We will dance the night away with the help of our wonderful musicians, Mary Vanhoozer, Jonathan Whitall, and Meg Dedolph.

  • 2:30 to 4:30 PM – Afternoon ball prep dance to recorded music, with tea and light refreshments
  • 4:30 to 7:00 PM – Supper break (on your own), dressing time (dressing rooms provided)
  • 7:00 to 10:00 PM – Evening ball with live music and period refreshments

Historical dress is admired, but not required.

Admission:

$20 per person, registration is open!
If possible, please register in advance so we can be sure to have the correct amount of refreshments!
